Folk Rock Kirtan is a new kind of music-heart-meditation experience. It’s not so much a performance as a journey into the self through the practice of listening and singing. Everyone experiences these evenings differently. You can think of it as a sing-along with an emphasis on self experiencing, silence, and connection.
It’s a very simple & powerful way to meditate. It’s effortless and joyful; the music does the work for you as you flow with the melody & rhythm. The performers & audience create the experience together. It is an alchemical process that simply works: open your throat, sing, and the heart opens also, creating a deep sense of connection with ourselves and those around us.
We sing meditative songs I’ve written, and some songs from spiritual singers like Peter Makena, and Premal & Miten. Some of the songs have also simple movements that help lift the energy into a real celebration. We sing some songs I’ve written, some songs from other spiritual singers, like Deva Premal and Miten, and Peter Makena, and sometimes – some folk rock from JJ Cale ! Along with the simple dances that happen in the beginning, it’s a real celebration of who we are, in this moment – together. Laughter pervades.
